GUIDED TOURS: Off the Beaten track
As a guest at Cabbage Tree Cottage we would like to offer personalised tours. We cater for one to four persons. Take a moment to browse the photos and read the information. On a tour you will be driven to the desired location and guided to whatever it is you wish to see. Lunch and refreshments can be provided. The experience is designed to be flexible and to no set timetable, unlike some larger tours. This is your experience......
Bird Watching: The Wairarapa hosts a variety of habitats that suit a huge variety of bird life. Some are here year round while others only pass through.
Scenic and Coastal Tours: Here in the Wairarapa we have such diverse scenes the world must be jealous. From wind-swept sand to pebble beaches, lighthouses and seals, there is always something of interest.
Botanical Tours, Bush Walks: New Zealand has long been in isolation on this planet of ours. Our bird dominated ecosystem allowed for plants to evolve into forms found nowhere else. We boast some of the world’s largest trees, huge varieties of ferns and grasses, yet have plants that have their own specialised and very localised niche.
Orchids: we boast some 140 varieties, like many of our native species they are found nowhere else in the world. Unlike some flashy varieties ours are more often petite and secretive, and found only with patient observation. They are found in nearly all New Zealand habitats, from the coast to the mountains. The best time to view our Orchids is from October to January As an Orchid enthusiast you will be amazed by what we have to offer her in New Zealand.
Rural Tours: The Wairarapa has a diverse range of farming systems, cropping, dairy, sheep, cattle, deer, and 'hobby' farmers that breed a variety of animals. Come on a tour and meet some of the Wairarapa's characters and see how our great nation was shaped.
